Friday 14th November

10:30 - 16:30

Tutor: Rosa Harradine

Rosa will teach you how to make at least four different brushes using arenga, tampico and broomcorn fibres. You can experiment with using different colours of nylon cord for binding and will be shown how to tie different styles of brush, such as the turkey wing and hawk tail designs. We will also discuss the history of brush making and the types of fibre that we will use.

Please note that brush making is surprisingly physical, so you will need a reasonable amount of dexterity in your hands and feet, as well as good grip strength. If you have any questions about this, please do get in touch before booking.

You might like to bring some warm socks to wear as we will be working with our shoes off.

Rosa creates her brushes and brooms from her home in West Wales. Working with natural, sustainable materials is very important to her and she is inspired to make pieces that are beautiful as well as useful. She makes all her brushes herself by hand, the only mechanised tool being her electric chainsaw used for cutting wood for broom handles from her small patch of woodland.
