Hand dyed and stitched using the technique of Intarsia.

The Wrexham quilt was created by military tailor James Williams in the mid - 1800s using scraps of military broadcloth from the cutting room floor. Its bold and striking aesthetic instantly resonated with Lynda's style of work. She was intrigued by the quilts construction which used an inlaid patchwork or ‘intarsia’ technique where all the pieces are butt-joined together with overcast stitches hand stitched on the reverse.

Focussing on the geometric patterning of the Wrexham quilt Lynda selected a limited pallet of striking and contrasting colours to create her quilt. Lengths of wool serge were hand dyed and accurately cut into squares, rectangles and chevrons, shapes that are typically found in the construction of patterns for traditional Welsh Tapestry blankets. The cut shapes were then hand sewn together slowly building up bold repeated patterns often revealing unplanned patterns within patterns as the construction developed.
