Saturday 14th June 2025
10:30 - 16:30
Artist Thomasin Toohie will demonstrate and talk you through creating a sketch in the open air around Cardiff Bay from which you can later create a painting back in our workshop space at the gallery. If the weather is poor then instead of working outdoors Thomasin will set up a still life from which you can work. She will show you how to combine watercolour and goauche paints to produce multi layered paintings. Covering wash & stroke techniques, use of colour, tone & perspective.
Materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own paints and paint brushes if you have them already at home. No prior painting or drawing experience is needed - suitable for all abilities.
Thomasin Kate Toohie has an MA in Painting from Hull University and now creates paintings and ceramic sculptures from her home in Penarth. She uses oils, gouache and watercolour to paint narrative works. A member of the Welsh Group, Thomasin regularly exhibits with The Art Shop & Chapel in Abergavenny and at the Bluestone Gallery in Hay on Wye. She also has work in the Brecon Museum Collection and has shown at the National Eisteddfod and Welsh Artist of the Year at St. David's Hall.
