10:30 - 16:30
Telling Stories - a fabulous workshop with textile artist and guild member Alison Moger where you can learn and develop your skills in free stitch machine embroidery and with contemporary hand embroidery. You are invited to bring along something that holds a memory for you - this will be the inspiration for your narrative.
Alison will provide materials (fabrics, yarn etc) for you to choose from on the day. You'll be working with an embroidery hoop - this can be borrowed for the day but if you think you'd like to continue with your piece at home then please bring along your own embroidery hoop (size of hoop is your choice and can become a permanent frame to your work if desired).
Please also bring:
- Embroidery threads of your colour choice. Alison will also have thread available.
- Fabrics that are personal to you and have a sentimental value that are suitable for hand embroidery (linen, cotton, close knit wool old blankets often work well) thick fabric with a very tight weave is not normally suitable as the embroidery needle needs the glide through the fabric with ease. Alison will have some lovely vintage fabric and suitable fabric for free stitch and embroidery.
- Embroidery needles a pack of mixed sizes if possible but Alison will also have a selection on hand. She will also bring along her sewing machine so that some experimental free-stitch can be explored. (We have additional machines at the gallery if you want to use them on the day).
- Vintage buttons, old buckles, clasps, beads and any other quirky items of your choice always work well.
