Sunday 17th August

10:30 - 13:00

Tutor: Claire Cawte

Immerse yourself in the mindful art of felt-making, using natural wool fibres sourced from heritage sheep breeds. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll craft a beautiful vessel by combining the earthy texture of heritage wool with the delicate whisper of silk, bamboo and soya fibres. Each element is chosen for its sustainability, tactile beauty and harmony — resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects both your creativity and care for the earth.

All materials will be provided.

Claire makes a range of bespoke hand-felt bags and a beautiful collection of eco-print silk scarves dyed with her home-grown cottage garden flowers, foraged and fallen leaves and bio-waste, such as coffee grounds, onion and avocado skins.

With a degree in Contemporary Textile Practice (2010) and MA in Contemporary Crafts (2024) Claire continues to use Welsh and British wool as an integral part of her designs. Claire is an experienced educator, working with people of all ages and abilities. She will be exhibiting new work at Craft in the Bay in our autumn exhibition Unfolding Welsh Textiles: Past & Present.
