Saturday 28th March 2026

Times: 10:30 - 16:30

A hands-on day drawing with traditional natural materials and grounds that date back to early Renaissance times and work in harmony with our natural environment.

You will be introduced to and use historic natural inks (such as oak gall, acorn cap and sepia) and traditional silverpoint, as well as local charcoal, chalks and rock sinopia.

Using traditional and experimental approaches you will explore the subtle colour, tone, marks and pace unique to each material and come away with a selection of drawings, recipes and understanding needed to continue from the studio or home.

There will be time to prepare various grounds and papers, test out materials, and develop drawings through still life observation and material response.

Demos, artist research and one to one guidance will support development.

This workshop would suit artists and those with some experience of drawing, painting or making.

No prior experience of the materials is needed.

Please bring sketchbooks, pencils, and watercolour brushes.
