Saturday 30th August
10:00 - 13:00
Tutor: Becca Clarke
Uncover the hues and therapeutic benefits of British herbs in this mindful natural dye experience, perfect for crafters with an interest in using organic materials and holistic wellbeing. With various natural dye techniques, you'll extract pigment from foraged and home-grown plants, learning the whole process in a relaxed environment. You will also learn how to identify and forage for plants that can be used for colour (and eating) and how to treat your fabrics for colour longevity.
Make and take away a selection of your own hand dyed textile products which will compliment a healthy lifestyle.
This workshop is suitable for beginner and experienced dyers.
Natural dyeing is a gentle, eco-conscious practice that deepens your connection to sustainable living and creative making. In every workshop, Becca will introduce a variety of plant-based pigment extraction methods. Becca will also demonstrate simple post-dyeing colour modification techniques, which allow you to expand your palette and experiment with bold, expressive patterns.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of how to use plants for dyeing, and the confidence to continue exploring at home. Natural pigments offer a beautiful alternative to synthetic dyes—which can be harsh on both skin and the environment—and they’re perfect for giving new life to old, natural fibre textiles through upcycling.
All materials will be provided on the day. We have aprons you can borrow.
Becca has a BA(Hons) in Textiles and MA in Enterprise & Innovation. Working from her studio in South Wales she has been sharing her natural dye knowledge with others since graduating in 2022. 'I believe in using creativity as a practical way of relieving eco-anxiety, taking small steps towards living a more sustainable lifestyle.'
